Superhero Dance

Overview

Objective: Play “follow the leader” using imagination.

Why teach this lesson? Each person gets a chance to make a dance move, which uses creativity and builds confidence.

Materials: A superhero song, like “What’s Up Danger” by Blackway & Black Caviar.).

Number of players: 2+

Instructions

Everyone stands in a circle and remains there for the entire game.

Round 1: Do a frozen superhero pose (like Spiderman).

Going around the circle, one person makes a superhero pose and everyone else copies it. Continue around the circle, with one person making a new pose and everyone copying.

Round 2: Do a dance pretending to be Spider-Man.

Using the same format, one person makes a new dance move while pretending to be Spider-Man. Everyone copies. Move around the circle.

Round 3: Do a specific skill (defensive stance, throwing a ball, etc).

The facilitator demonstrates a skill and have everyone copy. Then move around the circle with everyone demonstrating a new skill and everyone copying it. This creates a fun mutual-learning environment.

Tips

Everyone gets a chance to lead the dance so they feel welcomed and included. If a friend isn’t copying the leader, remind them of the expectation. They need to watch and participate if they want the opportunity to lead.

Reflection Questions

  1. 1. How does dancing make you feel?

  • 2. How does it feel to be the super hero leader?

  • 3. What can we learn by copying the other superheroes?

  • 4. If you want to be a super hero how do you hold your body as a statue? What about when you dance? In real life, why is it important to hold your body like a superhero?
