ABOUT AWARE TEACHER

Founder: Martin Hofkamp

I’ve taught, coached kids and teachers, and mentored public schools in Louisiana, Indiana, Cambodia, and St. Louis.  I hold a masters degree in Education from Johns Hopkins University and am currently pursuing my Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Teaching Certificate at Brown University. My life's work is bringing mindfulness into education so that adults and children treat themselves and each other with love and understanding. The Aware Teacher Project is a natural extension of that mission because physical education is the place where the friends we teach are eager to play and improve both physically and mentally. I currently work part time as a coach with STL City SC, develop social emotional curriculum for Football For Worldwide Unity, and work as a mindfulness mentor and education consultant.

Let’s work together.

Interested in working together? Fill out some info and we will be in touch shortly! We can't wait to hear from you!

Based in St. Louis, Missouri, we are working to create and share a play-based curriculum that incorporates mindfulness and creativity.

Our curriculum uses “friends” instead of “students” because it’s not just for the classroom. We encourage coaches, group facilitators, parents, and anyone else to use our free lesson plans and videos.

Join us - let’s transform education together!

Mission

We are developing a free play-based Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum. We share the joy of mindfulness in education as widely as possible.

Vision

Classrooms, teachers, and families with young children will have an excellent play-based Social Emotional Learning Curriculum that is free, easy to implement, and empowers children and adults to learn the skills of safety, self-awareness, compassion, joyful living, and self-esteem.
