All-Star Game: Kitchen Tag

Overview

Objective: Learn how to dribble with hands and feet; Learn how do “nutmeg” - a move in soccer and basketball in which you dribble or pass a ball through someone else’s legs.

Why play this game: Kitchen tag empowers friends to play a fun tagging game while developing the gross motor skills of dribbling with hands and feet.

Materials: One ball per person.ball per kid.

Number of players: 4+

Instructions

Divide the group into cooks and kids using your preferred method.

Cooks: Your objective is to chase the kids with balls out of your kitchen and try to tag them!

Kids: Your objective is to dribble the ball in the cooks’ kitchen without getting caught. In soccer, dribbling means kicking the ball to yourself using small kicks. In basketball, dribbling is when you bounce the ball off the floor.

Hiding: To hide, a player stops moving, hides the ball, and looks as innocent as they can. Remember, when dribbling with your feet make sure you hide the ball with your feet, not your hands.

When Tagged: Stand still with your legs apart and hold the ball above your head.

To Be Freed: A friend gently kicks a ball through your legs - this is the “nutmeg”.

Tips

Make sure to give your friends the opportunity to change and add rules.

Alternate version for 2-3 players: When someone is tagged, they pretend to go to their room and say the class motto three times: “I never lose, I win or I learn, Nelson Mandela.” Feel free to use any uplifting message that is appropriate for your group, team, or family.
